This year, Sumy region, like other regions, has faced an excessive amount of precipitation during the harvesting of corn and sunflower, reports elevatorist.com.
As Igor Gurzhiy, the head of the agro-expertise department at Credit Agricole Bank, explained, many now have corn moisture content exceeding 35%.
"Producers who have their own grain dryers on alternative energy sources are not stopping and are harvesting the crop," he noted.
According to him, farmers without their own drying facilities have temporarily suspended the harvest for two reasons:
the first is the queues that have formed at the elevators;
the second is that many are counting on frosts of at least -5 °C. Low temperatures can naturally cool the grain and reduce drying costs.
Gurzhiy added that farms that have their own cleaning and drying facilities are actively investing in increasing energy efficiency.
