The article highlights the challenges faced by apricot producers in Silistrensko, Bulgaria, due to low purchase prices and competition from foreign imports. The main issues include the lack of control over the use of harmful pesticides in these imports, which reduces the market value of locally grown fruits. The shrinking domestic market due to inflation and reduced fruit consumption, alongside high production costs and competition from cheap foreign fruit, have led to a significant decrease in the fruit trade in Bulgaria. Producers suggest that building a processing plant could help sell their products, but there are currently no fruit processing enterprises in Northeastern Bulgaria. The article concludes by stating that without state intervention, Bulgarian fruit may become scarce.
