The Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPNM) is set to have its responsibilities expanded to include the management of the durian commodity, following the country's successful export of fresh durian to China. This expansion aims to address the trade balance deficit by leveraging the demand for durian, pineapple, and coconut. The Agriculture and Food Security Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, mentioned that 40 metric tons of fresh Malaysian durians were sold in China within 24 hours, showcasing the market's potential. Efforts are underway to export 'village durian' to China to boost the income of smallholders, with collaboration between various departments and boards. This move comes after Malaysia's successful export of fresh durian to China, a achievement reached following eight years of efforts and previously being limited to exports of frozen durian.
