As of March 11, 2024, durian prices in Vietnam remain high, with the country becoming the second largest exporter of fruits and vegetables to China in 2023, largely due to a surge in durian exports. Vietnam's durian exports reached 2.1 billion USD in 2023, with China accounting for 99.4% of the total export value. The durian cultivation area in Vietnam has also significantly increased from 47,208 hectares in early 2023 to 62,173 hectares in early 2024. With the durian market in China potentially reaching 20 billion USD and globally 28.6 billion USD by 2025, there is a significant opportunity for Vietnamese durian. To capitalize on this, gardeners and businesses are advised to focus on improving quality, preservation, preliminary processing, and value addition, in addition to expanding cultivation areas.
