East Africa will improve trade in seed potatoes

The East African Community (EAC) has transferred laboratory equipment to member countries in the region as part of a project to improve regional seed potato trade in East Africa, the EAC said in a statement on Tuesday. The project aims to create the framework conditions for the development of the seed potato trade by supporting the development of regional strategies and action plans and the development and harmonization of regional standards for seed potatoes. Peter Mathuki, the secretary general of the EAC, said that the laboratory equipment is expected to revolutionize the seed potato trade of the EAC member states, especially by strengthening the technical and implementation capacity of the staff and laboratories to effectively implement required sanitary and phytosanitary measures to facilitate seed potato trade in the region, ...
