Ecuador's banana exports experienced an 8.99% growth in the first quarter of the year, reaching 139,110,631 boxes, as reported by the Association of Banana Exporters of Ecuador (AEBE). The growth was despite the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to quarantine measures in Europe and logistical issues. The European Union, the Middle East, Africa, and the EFTA area were the main markets, with the EU seeing a 13% growth. However, exports to Russia fell due to the change of season and COVID-19. In the Middle East, banana shipments doubled, and Asian markets recovered in April.
