From January to May 2021, Spanish banana growers harvested a total of 159,500 tons of bananas, with 14,500 tons being sold in the Spanish market and 115,000 tons being sold internationally. The domestic bananas retailed at 0.60 euros per kilogram, while the export variety cost 0.70 euros. In contrast, France produced 1,000 tons of bananas for local consumption in Guadeloupe and Martinique, but the majority of its production, 78,000 tons in Guadeloupe and 26,000 tons in Martinique, was exported. Ecuador, Colombia, and Costa Rica continued to dominate as the largest banana exporters to the EU-27 during this period.
