Ecuadorian blueberry exporters are seeking to secure a tariff-free agreement with China to enhance trade. Despite a Free Trade Agreement with China since May, the lack of phytosanitary protocols has hindered fruit exports. Negotiations are underway with blueberries being a priority, as the sector, although still small with only 300 hectares, has potential for growth. The industry faces challenges such as droughts but is optimistic due to its potential for organic production and the presence of phytosanitary protocols to export to over 30 countries.
