Ecuador has received approval from South Korea's APQA to export fresh mangoes to the country, opening up a new market for the South American nation. The export will be done under hydrothermal treatment, which was approved by the APQA after verifying the method in Ecuador in 2022. The Phytosanitary and Zoosanitary Regulation and Control Agency of Ecuador (Agrocalidad) will oversee the implementation of the required phytosanitary measures. With this, Ecuador hopes to increase its mango exports, which last season reached close to 28 thousand tons. South Korea is the 59th market to which Ecuador will export fresh mangoes, and the product will initially face a 30% tariff, which will be reduced progressively under the Strategic Economic Cooperation Agreement (SECA) until it reaches 0 in 10 years.
