Cilacap Regency in Indonesia is a key region for eel production, with demand exceeding 20 tons per month. The United Mina Sidat Cooperative is working on a project to establish the Eel Village in Kaliwungu Village, which has the potential to become a hub for eel cultivation education. Despite the pandemic, the cooperative has managed to maintain harvest quality and continue selling to high-end Japanese restaurants in Jakarta. In 2020, Indonesia's eel export value reached USD 16 million, with China, Japan, and Vietnam as the main buyers. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries is pursuing efforts to increase aquaculture production to boost the local economy, with the support of various agencies and Bank Negara Indonesia.
