Egg vaccination pilot launched in the Netherlands

Last September, the first pilot with two vaccines started at two laying companies. The eggs laid are destroyed because the vaccines have not yet been authorized and because not all concerns and objections from third countries have been resolved. The meat from the laid-out hens will also not come to the market. The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality will bear the costs. The first field trial will last until December 2025. The first results are expected in March 2024. If the field trial shows that the vaccine is also safe and effective under practical conditions, a pilot will start at several poultry farms in mid-2024.
