Egypt accounts for 84% of frozen strawberry imports to Russia during 2020

In 2020, Egypt emerged as a significant market for Russian imports of frozen strawberries, accounting for 84% of the total imports worth $23.4 million, marking a 7% increase from the previous year. This finding was highlighted by Yasser Mostafa, the Minister Plenipotentiary and Head of the Commercial Office in Moscow, during a symposium titled “Access to the Russian market.” The event was aimed at exploring opportunities to enhance the export of various food products from Egypt to Russia. Beyond strawberries, other potential export categories include frozen vegetables, fruits, fish, pickles, cheeses, juices, and vegetable extracts. Notably, exports of these products have seen growth despite the challenges presented by the pandemic. Furthermore, the symposium underscored the dynamic market for Egyptian pickles in Russia, with export volumes increasing by 7% in 2020, and the growing consumer trend towards cheese in Russia, which relies heavily on imports to meet its demand. Egyptian companies were encouraged to capitalize on these market opportunities by the Export Council for Food Industries and the Commercial Representation Agency.
