From January to August 2021, Egypt exported approximately 21 thousand tons of dates, valued at $22 million to 38 countries, with Indonesia being the largest market. Despite the global logistics crisis increasing transportation costs, the volume of exports to Morocco more than doubled. Other significant export markets included Malaysia, Thailand, and Bangladesh. Egypt's annual date production is around 1.7 million tons, with 95% being Siawi and Saidi dates, primarily for export. The country also produces wet dates and is experiencing demand for new date varieties. The government is supporting the sector technically to meet food safety standards and facilitate exports. A census found that the country has 180 date processing factories, ranging in size.
