A significant surge in interest from Uzbekistan towards Egyptian dates is being observed, following the announcement of a trade mission by the FAO and EBRD, aimed at connecting vegetable and fruit suppliers from Egypt and Morocco with their Uzbekistan counterparts. This development is part of a broader trend, with Uzbekistan experiencing a rapid growth in the consumption of dates, driven in part by increasing religious observance. Over the last five years, the country has seen a tenfold rise in the import of dates. Beyond dates, Uzbekim importers are also interested in a wide range of other products from Egypt and Morocco, including fresh early berries, citrus fruits, early potatoes, avocados, and the Egyptian supermango. The trade mission is currently selecting over 100 large and medium-sized exporting companies from Egypt to participate, while importers and supermarket chains from Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Tajikistan are being invited to join the negotiations.
