Divers and other professionals in El Jadida, Morocco, have decided to end the seaweed harvesting for this season as a protest against low prices and non-payment of contributions. They are demanding payment for ONP landing documents for the catch and are criticizing late payments and the role of industrialists and shipowners. The El Jadida area, which accounts for over 80% of the national production, has a quota of 3,900 tonnes of dry algae. This activity is crucial for the local economy but divers are not fairly compensated for their work.
