The Gyeongbuk Freshwater Fish Research Center recently released 2,000 artificially produced cherry salmon (endangered Class II) fry into Baekcheon Gorge in Bonghwa County for the first time at the center to restore the cherry salmon resources (photo). The cherry salmon fry released this time are healthy individuals with a total length of 10 cm, born from fertilized eggs and fry collected from Baekcheon Gorge in Bonghwa County, which were grown using the mother fish. Last May, 30,000 eggs were hatched to produce 4,500 fry, with 2,000 being released this time and the remainder to be continuously bred and managed for species conservation. The research center has established a foundation for species conservation and seed production through the breeding and management of the produced fry and mother fish.
