The Council of the European Union has approved a revision to the EU's plant health legislation to combat plant pests and simplify procedures. The revision includes the establishment of an EU plant health emergency team to provide assistance in case of new pest outbreaks. It also increases the duration of multiannual surveillance programs for competent authorities from five to seven years to between five and ten years. The legislation will be signed and published in the EU’s official journal, and will enter into force 20 days after publication.
