Euronext wheat futures traded near contract lows on Thursday as the market, lacking its usual momentum due to a holiday in the U.S., faced stiff export competition. March wheat, the most active contract on the Paris-based Euronext exchange, rose 0.1% to 190.50 euros ($220.90) per tonne by 16:00 GMT in low volumes. It held just above the contract low of 189.75 euros from mid-October, which it reached earlier this week. The rise on Euronext and a higher close on the Chicago exchange on Wednesday before Thanksgiving supported the European market. However, abundant supplies in other export zones kept the focus on export competition: Western European wheat was competing with traditional Black Sea competitors such as Russia and the Southern Hemisphere supplier Argentina.
