Sudan has received a €10 million grant from the European Union to restructure its gum Arabic sector. The funding, which will be managed through the French Development Agency, will be used to establish gum processing factories, manage quality control, develop marketing, expand cultivation, and build capacity in communities. Gum Arabic, a crucial ingredient in soft drinks, is primarily grown in Darfur, Kordofan, and Blue Nile states. The grant marks a milestone in the history of Sudan's gum Arabic trade, which has seen a resurgence since the end of the state monopoly in 2009.
