The European Union is experiencing a significant increase in the average price of raw milk due to a limited milk supply and rising production costs. In November 2024, the average price of raw milk in the EU increased by 1.2% from October and by 13.2% from November 2023. The most notable price increases were in Belgium (8.1%), Denmark (5.4%), France (3.6%), and the Netherlands (3.6%). This trend is largely due to supply restriction in member states, with production expected to decrease by 9 million tons by 2030. Additionally, farmers are facing rising costs related to fuel, feed, fertilizers, wages, and climate protection policies, with the Arla Foods cooperative planning to test a methane emission reduction additive that will further increase costs.
