The European Union has seen a significant decrease in farm animal populations, with a 5% decrease in pigs, 1% decrease in cattle, 2% decrease in sheep, and 3% decrease in goats compared to the same period in 2021. The most significant declines were in Bulgaria and Malta, with a 26% decrease in pig populations, and Germany and Denmark, with over half of the total reduction in the EU. The decline in pigs is a continuing trend across all EU member states, except for Italy and Sweden, and is attributed to the spread of African swine fever.
