April is the time for planting potatoes – PIORiN therefore checks the origin and health of the planting material. The sale of seedlings from one's own propagation is threatened with a fine of 2 to 12 thousand PLN and a remediation fee amounting to 200 percent of the amount obtained from the sale. PIORiN also checks the legality and the method of using plant protection products, and for irregularities in this area, a fine of up to 10 thousand zlotys is threatened. Although the importance of potatoes on Polish fields has significantly decreased over the past decades, it is still an economically important plant for us. Although the area of 200 thousand hectares - 211 thousand hectares last season and 192 thousand hectares the year before - is no longer impressive, nevertheless, the potato is still present in many farms.
