(Boeun=Yonhap News) Reporter Park Byeong-gi = The jujube, a specialty of the Boeun region in North Chungcheong, achieved a bumper harvest this summer despite the abnormal climate.
According to Boeun County on the 17th, the estimated production volume, confirmed by a recent survey of the jujube crop, is 1,982 tons, which is significantly higher than last year (1,564 tons) and 2023 (994 tons).
Boeun County analyzed that the increase in yield was due to short rainy seasons during the flowering period (June-July) followed by high temperatures and dry weather.
This region, which produces 10% of the nation's jujubes, is the largest jujube production area in the country along with Gyeongsan in Gyeongbuk.
As of this year, 1,258 farms are cultivating jujubes in 640 hectares.
In line with the jujube harvest season, Boeun County will hold the "2025 Boeun Jujube Festival" from the 17th to the 26th of next month at Bocheon Stream embankment and Baetdeul Park.
The festival, with the slogan "Sweet jujube, welcome to Boeun," will feature stalls selling fresh jujubes, an information booth, and cultural and artistic experience zones.
A "Jujube Cafe Zone" where visitors can taste jujube beverages developed by Boeun County will also be set up.
An official from Boeun County said, "We are creating a chrysanthemum flower garden and various photo zones to make the jujube festival, which has grown into a representative agricultural festival in the central region, rich and prosperous."
