Minister of Agriculture Piet Adema has announced the list of vegetables that can be grown in the Netherlands during autumn, known as 'winter crops'. This decision, which has been welcomed by the Association of the Dutch Fruit and Vegetable Processing Industry (VIGEF), Stichting Teelt Overleg Groenten (TOG) and GroentenFruit Huis, will allow for the continuation of vegetables such as spinach and savoy cabbage, providing Dutch consumers with a variety of vegetables throughout the year. However, there will be a reduction of 5 kg of nitrogen for certain crops like green beans in the harvest period of 1-14 October. The sector is also investing in improving groundwater quality and sustainability practices.
