Cooperation will diversify forage species for family farming in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil

Facilitating access to quality forage seeds is the objective of the program developed by the Government of Rio Grande do Sul. A cooperation agreement between the Secretariat of Rural Development (SDR/RS) and Embrapa will diversify forage alternatives, promoting the use of winter cereals in agriculture in Rio Grande do Sul. The signing will take place on March 7th, at 11am, at the Embrapa stand at Expodireto Cotrijal 2024. More than 137 thousand family farming properties work with milk in Rio Grande do Sul. In beef cattle farming, an estimated 60 thousand families are involved. Data from Emater/RS-Ascar show the importance of stimulating sustainable intensification in the generation of quality pastures. The Government of RS already has programs to promote the acquisition of seeds in family farming for corn and sorghum in the summer, and for black oats and ryegrass in the winter.
