Vine leaves, a by-product of grape production in Manisa, Turkey, have become a significant export earner for the region. Demand for these leaves, used in Turkish cuisine and for leaf wrap, comes mainly from Mediterranean and European countries with a dense Turkish population. During the harvest season, women collect the leaves, which are then sold to exporting companies that preserve them in brine. These exports have seen a 31% increase in the first four months of 2022 compared to the same period in 2021, generating a foreign exchange inflow of 32.6 million dollars in 2021 for the export of 26 thousand tons of pickled vine leaves.
