Exportation of South American chia strengthens despite climatic challenges: Peru takes the lead

(Agraria.pe) Weather conditions have been decisive in the performance of South American chia in 2025, according to commercial manager Federico Montoro López. In Paraguay, adverse weather events put the fields at risk before the harvest, while Bolivia enjoyed favorable weather that boosted productivity. Meanwhile, Peru maintained a solid export pace thanks to steady shipments and the growing diversification of its destination markets. Despite these climatic contrasts, the region managed to sustain a robust export performance, supported by the expansion of cultivation areas, improvements in yields, and the opening to new markets, the specialist notes.
