Farmers in Binh Thuan province are experiencing challenges with dragon fruit harvest due to pests, diseases, and low prices, driven by heavy rain and the impact of the Covid-19 epidemic. The low prices are further aggravated by the surplus of other fruits in the market. Despite these challenges, Cambodia is pursuing a license to export dragon fruit to China, aiming to capitalize on the increased demand. Vietnam, with a larger planting area, remains a significant competitor in the market. To mitigate the effects of the epidemic and improve the market outlook, experts suggest focusing on product quality, increasing processing to reduce pressure to sell fresh fruit, and exploring new markets. Binh Thuan is also leveraging its large output to develop the processing industry, adding value to the dragon fruit.
