Vietnam has approved the export of frozen durian to China, a move expected to significantly boost the country's agricultural export earnings. The agreement was signed under the watch of General Secretary To Lam and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The Vietnamese durian industry, which exported about 500,000 tons of the fruit in 2023, primarily to China, is set to benefit greatly from this new market access. The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association predicts that frozen durian exports could generate 400 - 500 million USD in 2024. The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development is focusing on improving durian quality and developing a traceability system to ensure success in the Chinese market.
