South Korea's seafood exports to the United States have hit an all-time high despite the global logistics crisis caused by COVID-19. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) announced that the export value was $360 million as of November 2021, surpassing the 2020 figure of $290 million. This success was achieved through cooperation with HMM, the national shipping company, to secure dedicated shipping space for seafood exports. Despite challenges such as blocked sea routes, 170 TEU of dedicated berthing space was allocated for 80 export companies. Negotiations are underway to expand routes to the eastern United States and the European Union, with efforts to continue securing vessels as logistics difficulties are expected to persist in 2022.
