A research initiative, titled Welfare Monitor 2.0, aims to enhance the welfare standards for goats in the Dutch Goat Dairy Organization (NGZO) by incorporating animal-focused criteria alongside existing environmental and management-based criteria. Financed by both the government and the goat sector, the project seeks to identify eight potential criteria, such as thermal comfort, social behavior, and physical health, to provide a more holistic approach to goat welfare. The initiative also explores the potential of technology, like camera systems, to facilitate more accurate assessments of goat health and well-being.
