José Zeferino Pedrozo, president of the Federation of Agriculture and Livestock of the State of Santa Catarina (Faesc), has urged for a new public policy to tackle the challenges faced by Brazil's milk production sector. These challenges include droughts, floods, and excessive imports that have affected the competitiveness of small and medium-sized milk producers. Pedrozo's proposed measures include reducing taxation, combating fraud, creating a dairy commodities futures market, maintaining anti-dumping measures, consolidating a 35% common external tariff for powdered milk and cheese, and regulating imports to protect existing production chains.
