The United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has revised its forecast for global cereal production in 2022/2023, increasing it by 8.3 million tons to a total of 2,764.7 million tons. This adjustment is primarily due to higher wheat production estimates in Australia and Russia. However, the global production of coarse grains, such as maize, is projected to decrease by 3.3% from the previous year, largely due to anticipated reductions in production in the United States, Russia, and the European Union. The FAO also notes that high fertilizer prices could lead to reduced application rates, potentially impacting yields. In the United States, winter wheat acreage is expected to grow to its largest in eight years, despite ongoing drought conditions in the central plains.
