Agricultural producers and livestock farmers from the Greek island of Crete have begun protests. They are demanding the payment of all due amounts, as well as the basic subsidy that should have already been paid. At the same time, they are calling for lower guaranteed prices that cover production costs and ensure a sustainable income, allowing them to cover basic needs and agricultural expenses. The farmers are renewing their demand for eased fuel loading at gas stations and the change in the regulation of the Greek Agricultural Insurance Organization (ΕΛΓΑ) so that the organization insures and compensates 100% of production and capital against all natural risks and diseases, with adequate state funding. For livestock farmers, two issues are considered particularly critical - the way sheep and goat sarcoptic mange is managed, and the scandal with the Greek agricultural payment agency OPEKEPE.
