Farmers in Kirovohrad Oblast, Ukraine are shifting their focus from grain to oil crops for the 2023 harvest, with an anticipated rise in sunflower cultivation. This strategic move is aimed at improving profitability, as oil crops are more valuable despite similar transportation costs. As a result, the region's grain production is expected to decrease, although Valeriya Furmanova, the head of the regional department of agro-industrial development, assures that food security will not be compromised, given that the region's grain consumption is a small fraction of its total production, which is primarily meant for export.
