Farmers of Ukraine's Kirovohrad region increased the sown area under winter rapeseed by 21% and reduced under winter cereals

In Kirovohrad Oblast, farmers are cutting back grain crops in favor of oil crops. In the spring, the area under sunflower is expected to increase. Valeriya Furmanova, head of the regional department of agro-industrial development, told the Access Point about this. She noted that for the 2022 harvest, Kirovohrad region farmers sowed 444,100 hectares of winter cereals and 67,000 hectares of winter rapeseed. But for the 2023 harvest, winter cereals were sown on an area of 398.3 thousand hectares, while the area under winter rapeseed was increased to 83.4 thousand hectares. That is, the area sown with rapeseed compared to the previous year increased by 21%. It is expected that in 2023, the agrarians of the region will expand the sown areas under sunflower. According to Valeria Furmanova, the reason for the priority of oil crops is that their logistics are more profitable: a ton of oil crops has a higher value.
