The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan has started exporting fresh Pakistani cherries to China, with the first shipment of 5.4 metric tons successfully clearing customs and being flown to Shanghai. The total export volume for this season is expected to reach 260 metric tons, despite challenges such as transportation limitations and the need for cold-chain facilities. The Pakistani government is working to improve crop cultivation methods and has registered over 100 cherry orchards and a cold storage and packaging plant in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province with China's customs. The Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Company is also planning to establish processing and packaging plants in the Gilgit-Baltistan region to increase production of cherry varieties preferred by Chinese consumers and assist farmers in improving cultivation methods.
