Puerto San Julián, Argentina, is now exporting king crab as a finished product, the only town in the country with a processing establishment dedicated to this premium product. The town produced 170 tons of king crab in 2022, marking the start of exports certified by Senasa, a regional center responsible for safety controls and certification of fishing products. The crab meat for export is also obtained on high seas in processing freezer ships. The king crab is a harvest species with a complex production process and high commercial value. The export not only generates added value and job opportunities but also highlights the need for protecting national fish heritage and sovereignty in the Argentine sea.
