Last week, Bangladesh saw a significant increase in the prices of fish and garlic, with fish prices rising by Tk50-Tk100 per kilogram and garlic by Tk30-40 per kilogram. The price hike is attributed to low catches and increased transport costs. Both cultured and indigenous fish varieties, including koi, ruhi, katla, pangas, tilapia, and others, saw price increases of Tk40-50 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the cost of garlic has reached Tk100-Tk120 per kilogram for local garlic and Tk130-150 per kilogram for imported garlic. The Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) has called for government action to reduce the production costs of agricultural goods and has suggested stricter market monitoring.
