The Fish Week event in Brazil, starting September 1st and ending September 15th, is designed to promote the consumption of fish and other fisheries and aquaculture products. Organized by the private sector with support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa), the event aims to increase consumer interest and boost the local economy. Last year, there was a 30% rise in consumption due to similar promotions. This year, the goal is to reach all states with these promotions. The event not only encourages healthier eating habits but also highlights the importance of the fish industry in fighting malnutrition and hunger, aligning with the World Health Organization's and Sustainable Development Goals' objectives. Brazil, a significant producer of animal protein and rich in aquatic species biodiversity, is aiming to close the gap in fish consumption between its population and the recommended levels by the FAO.
