Thailand: Fisheries in Nakhon Si Thammarat show a decrease in the number of black-chinned tilapia

Reports from the Nakhon Si Thammarat Fisheries show that the province’s measures to eliminate black-chinned tilapia have been effective, reducing the number of fish in the province. Similarly, Samut Sakhon has implemented 5 measures that have shown results, with more than 70% of the black-chinned tilapia disappearing. In several other provinces, such as Samut Songkhram and Chachoengsao, the black-chinned tilapia have declined. The Fisheries Department is continuing to remove fish from the ecosystem in order to eliminate this species. Mr. Kobsak Ketmuen, the provincial fisheries officer of Nakhon Si Thammarat, said that normally, villagers in Nakhon Si Thammarat have used the black-chinned tilapia to sell as bait for crabs and other fish for a long time.
