The Marine Affairs and Fishery Ministry in Indonesia is working to enhance the production of tilapia to keep it among the country's primary aquaculture commodities due to increasing domestic and international demand. The ministry is supporting tilapia farming through providing quality fish seeds, broodstock, independent fish feed, technological support, and certification. It is also reforming the seed logistics system and introducing technology for more affordable tilapia production. The ministry is also developing region-based tilapia cultivation programs and breeding tilapia through selection. Tilapia is valued for its environmental tolerance, fast growth, ability to be cultivated in various water conditions, high protein content, and affordable price.
