Germany: Fishing ban for whitefish in Lake Constance begins

The fish will not be allowed to be caught until 2027. The effects of conservation should be checked regularly, as the International Conference of Plenipotentiaries for Lake Constance Fisheries (IBKF) explained. The IBKF decided to close the season last June after a massive drop in catch numbers. For monitoring purposes, state fisheries supervisors would set nets at several locations in the lake every month. Compliance with the adjusted fishing laws will, as before, be monitored by the fisheries supervisors of the neighboring states of Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Whitefish struggle with competition Whitefish yields have been declining for years. In 2022 they had collapsed to just over 20 tons.
