The International Conference of Plenipotentiaries for Lake Constance Fisheries (IBKF) has decided to close the season for whitefish until 2027, due to a significant decline in catch numbers. The decline in whitefish yields is attributed to various factors including competition from stickleback, lack of nutrients in Lake Constance, and the presence of the fish-eating cormorant. In addition to the closed season, measures such as releasing large whitefish larvae into the lake and cormorant management are being considered to rebuild the whitefish population.
