Turkey is among the top 10 countries in sunflower cultivation area and production, but its production does not meet the needs of the Turkish vegetable oil industry and reliance on imports continues to increase. Between 2015 and 2020, sunflower imports increased by 3.4 times. In 2020, 96.4% of sunflower oil imports were made as crude oil, costing the country $1.5 billion. To become self-sufficient, more support needs to be provided to sunflower producers.
Turkey also leads in dried and table fig production and exports, accounting for 24% of the world's production. Exports have increased from $211 million in 2010 to $338 million in 2020, with a goal of reaching over $500 million by making diverse high-value products.
