The Agricultural Research Institute (INIA) of Chile, led by Iris Lobos, has announced plans to expand seed production in southern Chile, covering 25 hectares for potato certified seed and 150 hectares for cereal seedbeds, including oats, triticale, and wheat. This initiative aims to bolster food sovereignty and security, especially supporting peasant family farming. INIA is collaborating with various stakeholders on a national seed production plan and is developing a long-term partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation (MINCTCI) to create new climate-resistant crop varieties. The visit to INIA La Pampa also included inspections of laboratories, seed selection processes, and the Angus breeding program.
