In 2023, the National Agri-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) in Argentina successfully completed its second annual vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease, vaccinating over 29 million cattle and buffaloes. This effort focused on younger animals, excluding older cows, bulls, and oxen, adhering to the National Plan for the Eradication of Foot and Mouth Disease. The campaign, which started on March 11, 2024, was carried out by more than 300 local health entities. It is part of a broader strategy to maintain Argentina's status, recognized by the World Organization for Animal Health, as a region free of foot-and-mouth disease with vaccination, emphasizing the critical role of vaccination in controlling the disease.
