The potato sector is facing an exceptional situation. There are large quantities of potatoes for which no or hardly any destination can be found. LTO Nederland and BO Akkerbouw are warning growers about the risks when potatoes do not leave the farm or are returned to the field. It is clear that processing options or sales towards fermentation and animal feed (fresh and ensiled) will not be sufficient to resolve the surplus at growers. There are risks associated with potatoes for which no destination is found. It is important for growers to take into account applicable rules and guidelines, including the cultivation regulations.
