This initiative is the result of an agreement reached on October 21 in Astana between Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
The formal lifting of restrictions on transit goods has paved the way for a new railway route connecting Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Armenia.
On November 5, a train loaded with Kazakh wheat passed through the Azerbaijani border. The cargo is expected to reach the Dairlak station in Armenia in the coming days. This shipment, consisting of 15 carriages carrying 1,000 tons of food wheat, is the first pilot transport to test the new logistics route.
Aslan Zhuvasheev, Chairman of the Board of the Kazakhstan Grain Contract Corporation, stated that the newly opened transit route not only expands the geographical scope of Kazakhstan's grain exports but will also play an important role in strengthening transport and logistics links between regional countries.
This initiative will also help to promote economic and trade cooperation in the South Caucasus region and facilitate the implementation of peace initiatives, he said.
The Grain Contract Corporation is a major operator in Kazakhstan's national grain market, committed to ensuring national food security, stabilizing the domestic market, supporting agricultural producers, and implementing national agricultural policies.
It is worth mentioning that on November 4, Aidarbek Saparov, Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, reported at a government meeting that the 2025 agricultural season ended successfully, with Kazakhstan achieving a historic harvest in multiple areas such as grain, legumes, and oilseeds.
