The Ministry of Industry in Indonesia is taking steps to enhance the productivity and global competitiveness of the cocoa processing industry. With a ranking of third globally in cocoa product processing and sixth in cocoa bean production, the industry generated over $1 billion in foreign exchange in 2020 and 2021. There are 11 intermediate sector players with a capacity of 739,250 tons per year, 900 chocolate processing industry players, and 31 chocolate artisans. The government is encouraging downstream cocoa processing through tax incentives and facilitating partnerships with farmer groups. The Ministry is also promoting processed cocoa products at international level exhibitions like SIAL Interfood 2022.
