The French Government assured this Thursday that there is "no risk" of contracting the H5 avian flu, a virus transmitted by poultry that presents an increasing number of cases in Europe, through the consumption of "poultry meat or its derivatives."
This was stated by French authorities at a conference organized by the Public Health Agency of this country and the National Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health and Safety (ANSES), where they emphasized that the consumption of foods "such as foie gras" does not constitute any "risk to humans."
"The level of risk is estimated as 'low' for the general population and 'low to moderate' for people more exposed, in particular those who work in poultry farms," they remarked, since it has not yet been demonstrated that the virus can be transmitted between people, according to the WHO.
