France has launched an unprecedented bird flu vaccination campaign on October 1, 2023, targeting 64 million ducks by September 2024, with over 26 million already vaccinated. This initiative has significantly reduced High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) outbreaks from 315 in the previous year to just 10 since fall 2023. The campaign, a joint financial effort between the government and the industry, has seen Boehringer Ingelheim and Ceva Santé Animale winning new tenders for vaccine supply. Despite impacting exports due to import bans from some countries, the vaccination drive has boosted foie gras production by 21% in 2023, with efforts ongoing to reopen affected markets.
